Yesterday we spent the afternoon at the pond. These babies are being taught how to look for food. We sat until the parents were comfortable enough to bring their little ones near us.
Feeding the animals is prohibited so it's simply out of curiosity that they come closer.
This female has eight babies who were fathered by three different males. It's quite clear to see who's in charge.
But the males are devoted protectors who hang out with mom until the ducklings are old enough to fend for themselves.
These babies were already on their own but it was interesting to see how protective they were with each other. This is so much more fun than textbook science!
