More Nests

A few days after the baby finches hatched they were nowhere to be found. We thought something might be amiss when one of the eggs disappeared shortly before they were born. I guess it's mother nature's way of keeping the population down.












We are continuing to watch the mama sparrow who has now laid four eggs in this ground nest which we can see from our kitchen window. She camouflages nicely in all that gray stuff.

















Since we get lots of snakes this time of year, it will be interesting to see how she will protect her newborn from predators that will have easy access to the nest.











Meanwhile, a pair of finches took over this phoebe nest above our feeder. It's not pretty like the others, but I have a feeling the parents will be much more successful when it comes to keeping their babies alive.
