Are We Having Fun Yet?

This is my dear, dear, brother. He comes to visit us rarely.

When he does, we not only get the pleasure of experiencing his spontaneous, somewhat unannounced company (quick, Honey, hide the...) but he never fails to shower us with his childlike, ahhh, most often more like... disturbing behavior.

There's never a dull moment when Uncle Brucie's around. The last time he was here, he taught the girls to burn anything that was smaller than they were with a magnifying glass, and later showed them how to disintegrate slugs and snails with over a pound of my table salt. Don't ask about my grass.

With the announcement that we were going to take the girls on an expedition of sorts, we voted and agreed that the best place possible for Uncle Brucie to feel right at home was Disneyland since we all know he has no intention whatsoever of growing up. To tell ya the truth, we kinda like him that way but we'd never admit it. Fortunately for me, they don't sell beer inside the park.

The morning began as I expected it would. Our first line (about 30 minutes) was the ticket booth. Alas, they still have their bright, smiley faces, so full of anticipation and excitement...sort of.

Once inside the gates, we experienced all kinds of intense, physical stimulation: thousands of shoes squishing our toes, butting elbows sliding into our backsides, and of course, try as we might, it was impossible to keep up the fancy footwork of dodging the out-of-control parents who were using their empty strollers to clear a pathway of their choosing. Exhilaration. And we hadn't even had our first real ride yet!

Here it comes...the tongue I've come to know so well.

This is about one hour after we've been standing in line for Autotopia. It's hot, she's thirsty, and I'm all out of pumpkin cookies.

The mood is contagious. Thank God, no tongue from this one. Just the start of a real tear. Like it's my fault I didn't discuss this line thingy personally with Mr. Walt before we arrived.

A happy tongue.

Is this Disney's idea of a practical joke? First we get to wait in line, and then we get to wait in traffic.

To be continued...
