Spur of the moment mini-vacations and flat tires go hand-in-hand [only] in our family. After loading snacks and suitcases, locking doors, and walking out to the car on a warm Friday afternoon, we realized we'd be frustratingly delayed by a not-so-brief service station pit-stop for which no one could figure out why this tire went completely flat in the middle of the night.
Nearly an hour later, we decided to do what any other intelligent human being would do when they were about to engage in a seven hour drive in the dark through barren, desolate, back country; we put the same tire back on the car and crossed our fingers.

We gratefully arrived at our destination without further incidence,

whereby, my children beheld the snowy woods for the very first time.

Better to find it before you leave instead of while driving on the road! What a relief to have no other unexpected "detours."
